Health Week 2019

Health Week at Cairns Primary!

The children enjoyed a variety of activities and events to mark Health Week.  Read more about it below!

Monday

On Monday, the children took part in Sports Day and competed against the other Houses.  We had great weather and were able to have sports day outside in our muga and playground.  The winning house was Bruce.

The children also took part in a football and beat the goalie activity with their classes.  In the classroom, children learned about mental wellbeing and took part in some mindfulness activities.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, the school participated in a Sprint Challenge led by our Active Schools coach, George.  Boys and girls raced against their classmates and cheered each other on.  Our nursery boys and girls were litter picking and they also had a go at yoga, as well as a Boot Camp fitness session!!

In classrooms, each class was given a platter of exotic fruits to taste.  Fruits included pomegranate, mango, persimmon fruit, apricot, melon and pineapple.  The fruit tasting was a big hit and many children tried something they had not tasted before!

Wednesday

On Wednesday, each class had taster sessions of Zumba and Taekwondo.  Children were also invited to bring in some 'Fruity Sculptures'.  Some of these were most impressive!  We also had a visit from the local police who were out in the playground playing their siren for the children!

What a great week, packed full of activities.  Many thanks to Mr Miller, Miss Little and Miss Harvey for organising.  Thanks also to all the coaches and volunteers who made our week such a success!
